Welcome to a new edition of The Education Playbook where we’ll be diving into the education reforms House Republicans will be enacting alongside President Trump in the new congress. You can read the full newsletter on my website and make sure to take my official issue survey to let me know the issues that matter most to you and your family.
Growing up in the segregated South, I learned early on that education is the great equalizer. My parents, both educators, instilled in me a love of learning, resilience, and a belief in the transformative power of hard work.
Unfortunately, the American education system has strayed from these ideals. Instead of fostering excellence, it has embraced “equity” principles that distort the purpose of K-12 education. Radical ideas about gender and race—untethered from history or science—are being pushed onto our children. On college campuses, the free and open debate of ideas has been replaced by a rigid orthodoxy. Anti-American and anti-Western ideologies dominate, transforming our institutions from engines of opportunity into breeding grounds for radical activism.
It’s time to get back to the basics. Education should prepare young Americans for success, not indoctrinate them with divisive and unproven theories. To restore the promise of American education, here’s the game plan:
Empowering Parents and Students with Choices As a father, I’ve always believed that parents—not bureaucrats—know what’s best for their children. That’s why I’m fighting for policies that give families real options. Congress needs to expand school choice with vouchers, champion charter schools that consistently outperform traditional public schools, and promote nontraditional pathways like technical education. These reforms will help every child access the quality education they deserve, no matter their ZIP code.
Elevate Skills and Workforce Readiness Education should prepare students for success, not trap them in debt for degrees that don’t lead to real jobs. I’m focused on aligning education with our economy’s needs by boosting career and technical education, internships, and workforce counseling. By prioritizing practical skills, House Republicans will ensure students are ready to fill high-demand roles and succeed in a competitive market.
Defend Merit, Fairness, and Safety in Education Students deserve learning environments free from radical ideologies and political agendas. From exposing antisemitism on campuses to defending free speech, House Republicans are building on legislation like my End Woke Higher Education Act to protect American values and uphold merit and fairness in education.
Demand Transparency and Accountability Parents have a right to know what’s happening in their kids’ schools. I’m committed to holding educators and institutions accountable for failing to address issues like harmful online interactions and questionable curriculum content. House Republicans will ensure that schools operate transparently and truly serve the families who entrust them with their children’s education.
Congress can reform education to unlock the potential of every child, empower parents, and ensure America remains the land of opportunity. This isn’t just about policies—it’s about our children’s future and the future of our nation.
