Owens Announces $60 Million Award for Utah Transit Authority

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04) announced a $60,000,000 award from the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace the original UTA Light Rail Vehicles (LRV). Replacement LRVs are low-floor cars that significantly improve accessibility and safety for all passengers. The proposed replacement will provide twenty-five-plus years of additional system life, which is critical to meeting increased transit demand from record growth along the Wasatch Front.

“As the #1 state in the nation, Utah is experiencing unrivaled and unparalleled growth,” said Rep. Owens. “As the first Utahn to serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in 20+ years, I am proud to announce the return of your hard-earned taxpayer dollars to guarantee accessible, reliable, and well-maintained transit systems that connect Utahns to people, places, and opportunities.”
