WASHINGTON — Congressman Burgess Owens (UT-04) co-signed a letter to Troy Miller, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, demanding that U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigate possible cases of visa fraud committed by colleges and universities when they fail to unilaterally enforce rules in order to protect disruptive foreign national students.

“Bullies and bigots have taken over America’s education system, promoting terror and spewing hate at Jewish students,” said Rep. Owens. “When campus protests devolve into antisemitic mobs that create an unsafe learning environment, it is the responsibility of universities to enforce their own rules and protect students. Unfortunately, we have seen little to no accountability from campus leadership, especially for foreign nationals on college visas who break the law and openly support terrorist organizations on American college campuses.”

Background:

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology walked back threats to expel students who refused to comply with student guidelines and policies, with the university president citing “visa issues” – meaning, the suspension or expulsion of foreign students could lead to their visas being revoked and ultimately their deportation.
  • Columbia University and Barnard College created a “Doxing Resource Group” to scrub potentially damning digital evidence that could lead to the visa revocation and deportation of foreign students who participated in rallies in support of terrorism and the murder of Jews.
