Owens Co-Sponsors Legislation to Improve SBA Relief
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04) co-sponsored the IMPROVE the SBA Act, a bill to revamp the pro-growth policies of the Small Business Administration while ensuring accountability and oversight over its lending practices.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Small Business Administration doled out billions of dollars in relief funds to small businesses in Utah and across the country,” said Rep. Owens. “Unfortunately, multiple investigations revealed fraud, mismanagement of funds, improper payments, and identity theft. The IMPROVE the SBA Act would expand oversight, prevent wasteful government spending, and increase key support for Main Street USA.”
In addition to co-sponsoring the IMPROVE the SBA Act and following a lack of communication from the Small Business Administration to Utah’s small businesses, Rep. Owens sent a letter to SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman urging increased transparency and streamlined support.
