WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04) co-sponsored the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, legislation to place a one-year moratorium on all federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which benefits from taxpayer dollars while performing and profiting from elective abortions.

To further invest in women’s health, the legislation would reallocate taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood for community healthcare centers that focus on comprehensive care for women and their babies. Funds would once again be made available if the organization and its affiliates focused on non-abortion healthcare services that are appropriate for the taxpayer to support.

“In 2019 and 2020, Planned Parenthood performed over 350,000 abortions while boasting over $618,000,000 in taxpayer dollars,” said Rep. Owens. “Hardworking Utahns in my district want to invest in women’s health care, not foot the bill for on-demand abortion services. The Defund Planned Parenthood Act accomplishes both by standing up for life while investing in comprehensive community health centers for women and their babies.”
