WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04) co-sponsored legislation to prevent the District of Columbia from allowing non-citizens to vote in American elections. The bill is in response to the D.C. Council’s recently passed measure that would allow non-citizens – including illegal immigrants – to vote in local elections.

“Allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections is a slap in the face to every single American and makes a mockery of this country,” said Rep. Owens. “I oppose the D.C. Council’s latest attempt to erode the rights of American citizens and destroy the democratic institutions our nation is built on.”
