WASHINGTON — Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT) has been selected by House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) to serve as the Committee’s Vice Chairman for the 119th Congress and to continue serving as Chairman of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee.

“It’s an honor to be selected by Chairman Tim Walberg to serve as Vice Chair of the House Education and Workforce Committee and as Chairman of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee during such a critical time for our country,” said Rep. Owens. “We’re in a fight to bring common sense back to our schools—restoring merit, holding failing institutions accountable, exposing the antisemitism on campuses, reversing top-down DEI mandates, and disrupting a broken system that’s failing too many Americans. Chairman Walberg has assembled an all-star team ready to tackle these challenges, and we’re ready to deliver results for America’s students and workers.”

“I am pleased to announce that Rep. Burgess Owens will be Vice Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee and Chairman of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee,” said Chairman Tim Walberg. “Postsecondary education is in a tailspin. From skyrocketing tuition and a broken student loan system to widespread antisemitism and DEI mandates, major changes are needed to restore confidence in our higher education institutions. Rep. Owens will be instrumental in our work to strengthen the American education system so that independent thought is prioritized, ensuring students are taught how to think rather than what to think.”
