DRAPER, UT — Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT) issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Salt Lake City has been chosen to host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He emphasized the importance of integrity in sports and raised concerns about China’s disregard for anti-doping regulations:

“As a former professional athlete and a proud representative of Utah, I am thrilled that Salt Lake City has been chosen to host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This prestigious honor provides an incredible opportunity to showcase our beautiful state, known as the happiest state in the union, and for the warmth and hospitality of its people. I eagerly anticipate welcoming athletes and spectators from around the world to experience the best of what Utah has to offer.

“While we celebrate this exciting news, it is also crucial to address the importance of integrity in sports. The use of performance-enhancing drugs must be unequivocally condemned, as it undermines the integrity of competition and discredits the hard work of honest athletes. The allegations of China’s blatant disregard for anti-doping regulations are deeply troubling and highlight the need for rigorous adherence to fair play principles.

“The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and other relevant authorities must continue to lead efforts to maintain the integrity of international sports. I look forward to welcoming the world to Utah for an inspiring and fair celebration of athletic excellence.”
