Owens Works to Criminalize Highway Obstruction

WASHINGTON – Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04) helped introduce the Safe Passage on Interstates Act, legislation to criminalize any intentional obstruction of highways that occurs without proper authorization. 

“Over the weekend, hundreds of pro-Palestine protestors in Utah shut down a highway overpass and blocked traffic – just the latest in a pattern of senseless disruptions across the nation,” said Rep. Owens. “Americans are free to express their views, but not at the expense of law-abiding citizens on the road. The Safe Passage on Interstates Act makes it illegal to block, obstruct, or impede traffic, allowing law enforcement the tools to act.”
