Designates June 24th as Public Safety Awareness Day

WASHINGTON Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT) introduced a resolution to designate June 24th as Public Safety Awareness Day, reaffirming the federal government’s duty to uphold law and order. The resolution recognizes public safety as a core responsibility, encourages community-based crime prevention, and calls for stronger victim services, mental health support, and an end to anti-police ideology.

“Across the country, Americans are watching their communities suffer under the weight of soft-on-crime policies, rogue prosecutors, and defunded police departments,” said Rep. Owens. “This resolution sends a clear message: we stand with law enforcement and reject lawlessness. Families in Utah and across the nation want safe neighborhoods, and House Republicans are working with President Trump to deliver.”

“Public safety isn’t a partisan issue—it’s a human one,” said Gianno Caldwell, Founder, Caldwell Institute of Public Safety. “This resolution affirms what every American deserves: to feel safe in their home, in their neighborhood, and in their daily life. By empowering communities, supporting law enforcement, and investing in real solutions, we honor the lives already lost to senseless violence and commit to building a safer future for all.”

Key provisions of the resolution:

  • Designates June 24th as Public Safety Awareness Day.
  • Reaffirms congressional support for law enforcement and community safety initiatives.
  • Encourages the development of local crime prevention strategies that empower families and citizens.
  • Calls for targeted solutions to combat the violence plaguing America’s most vulnerable communities.
