Owens Fights To SAVE America’s Elections
WASHINGTON — Congressman Burgess Owens (UT-04) voted in support of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, legislation he co-sponsored to combat Democrat efforts to cement one-party rule by upholding and strengthening current law that permits only U.S. citizens to vote in Federal elections.
“President Joe Biden opened the floodgates at our border, releasing over 10 million unvetted illegal immigrants into communities across the nation and providing a pathway for non-citizens to become registered voters,” said Rep. Owens. “Not only has this administration put the safety and security of Americans at risk, but it has also jeopardized the integrity of our nation’s election system, all for their party’s political gain. House Republicans passed the SAVE Act to protect Americans’ right to vote and ensure that only citizens of this great country have a voice in our nation’s future.”
Background:
Since President Biden took office, millions of illegal aliens have poured into our country and many are given the opportunity to register to vote in federal elections.
The SAVE Act amends the National Voter Registration Act, setting requirements for states to verify U.S. citizenship. It outlines acceptable documentation for proving citizenship and requires states to set up alternative verification processes for citizens without standard documents. Additionally, the legislation compels states to purge non-citizens from voter rolls and establishes federal penalties for intentionally registering non-citizens.
