Owens Fights for Election Integrity
WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT) voted to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, legislation he co-sponsored to uphold and strengthen existing law, ensuring that only American citizens can vote in U.S. elections.
“The right to vote is sacred—it belongs to American citizens,” said Rep. Owens. “Under the Biden administration, millions of illegal immigrants were allowed into our country, while far-left states like California made it illegal to verify citizenship before handing out ballots—creating a perfect storm for rampant voter fraud. The SAVE Act brings accountability back to our elections, closing loopholes, and securing our system, so every legal vote counts and every illegal vote is stopped.”
Background:
- The SAVE Act requires states to obtain proof of citizenship – in person – before registering an individual to vote in an election.
- Requires states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls, while giving them necessary tools to do so.
- This legislation passed the House in a bipartisan vote (221 – 198) during the 118th Congress before being blocked by Senate Democrats.
