Congressman Bill Owens released the following statement this afternoon in response to reports that the President will order federal agencies to approve the southern part of the Keystone Pipeline from Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast:

“I am pleased to see progress with the construction of a section of the Keystone Pipeline. This is a good step towards a project that will create jobs and enhance cooperation with trusted allies like Canada to meet America’s energy needs.  Conflict and demand overseas are driving up prices at the pump for commuters, farmers and families, and projects like the Keystone Pipeline have the potential to bring some relief.

“We need an all-of-the-above approach to energy security, and the Keystone pipeline is a move in the right direction. As TransCanada prepares to resubmit the plan for Presidential approval, I urge the White House to approve the entire project in full recognition of its potential for economic development and the opportunity to produce more energy here at home.”
