WATERTOWN – Congressman Bill Owens released the following statement today after the Social Security Administration announced that, starting in January 2012, Social Security beneficiaries will see their first cost-of-living-adjustment in three years.

“Social Security is a pledge to hard working Americans that they will be able to retire with the dignity they deserve.  For two years, despite rising food, drug and housing costs, we have seen no cost-of-living-adjustment for those who depend on Social Security to make ends meet.  I am glad to see a COLA increase next year and I look forward to working with both parties to preserve and strengthen Social Security for generations to come without cutting benefits or privatizing the program.”
